Our Why

In 2023, we mourned the loss of Robert "Bobby" Pickett, who tragically took his own life after a two-year struggle with mental health, ultimately leading to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, psychosis, and schizophrenia. It's crucial to emphasize that Bobby's life should not be defined solely by his battle with mental health.Bobby was a remarkable individual, excelling as a multi-sport athlete, maintaining straight A's throughout his academic career. He loved art and video editing. After High School, he was admitted to and attended the University of Virginia for over three years, where he was an active member of a fraternity.

In his early twenties, Bobby began grappling with the debilitating symptoms of schizophrenia, profoundly impacting every facet of his life. Despite enduring multiple hospitalizations, Bobby displayed unwavering determination in his fight against a formidable illness. Our intention is to share his story with anyone willing to listen because Bobby was more than his struggles. He was kind, thoughtful, intelligent, talented, and compassionate.

His experience serves as a poignant reminder that mental health disorders, such as schizophrenia, do not discriminate among those they affect. Behind these conditions are individuals with unique stories, lives, and loved ones. Bobby's story is a testament to the fact that the victims of these diseases are the people we love.

We've created an open space to connect with Bobby which includes some of his art, music collection, and writings. Our aim is to share Bobby's talents with all those that come to connect with our foundation so that they may better get to know the amazing person that inspires this mission.
